Trout Water
Welcome to the Trout Water section of TheOkieAngler.com!
You may or may not be surprised to discover that Oklahoma has a relative abundance of trout fishing opportunities. I’ll focus on the main fisheries: Lower Mt. Fork River, Lower Illinois River, and Blue River, but I hope to add additional information on some of the smaller seasonal trout fisheries as time allows.
Like the Local Water section, this will be a constant work in progress.

Welcome to Ward Wulf’s blog and Oklahoma fly fishing website -- A great source for OKC Metro (and beyond!) fishing reports and discussions.

I really like your web site…being an okie flyfisher since highschool. I’m sixty two now and still like fly fishing… mostly in eastern okla rivers and creeks.
I would like to have your recipe for the “rusty orange egan’s headstand” fly.
I’m looking to start fishing for carp this summer as they are everywhere and the rest of the fish are not biting, do to the high summer heat.
Thanks Walt… I appreciate the encouragement.
Check out this link to see the recipe: http://www.flytyingforum.com/pattern4807.html
I think you’ll love carpin’. When you hook the first one and he takes you to the backing… you’ll be addicted like the rest of us, ha! Hope you’ll come back and give us a headstand success story
I’ve been tying the Egan, but from a photo only. I’ve developed a variant that might be of interest. Instead of the dubbed body I simply have used Antron Tread wrapped up to the eyes. It’s quick and clean…. and works.
I’ve very interested in knowing the history of this fly if anyone cares to write to me with that 411
Don’t know much about the history of the fly… just know it from that link, and that umpqua produces it commercially… What colors do you tie it in Ariel?
