About TheOkieAngler

Welcome to Ward Wulf’s blog and Oklahoma fly fishing website! I hope you find this site to be a valuable resource for Oklahoma fly fishing reports and discussions. Please feel free to comment and I appreciate any and all suggestions for the site.

I’m an amateur fly fishing nut with a healthy obsession (although my fiance might tell you otherwise!!) for fishing local OKC Metro waters. Whether it is fishing a local golf course pond, exploring the great Lower Mountain Fork, or fishing some other exotic destination (regrettably rare occurrence), I just can’t seem to get in enough time on the water.

I hope you’ll join me in a discussion of the great, and all too often overlooked, fly fishing opportunities here in Oklahoma.

Ward

  2. Ward,

I think we must be related! I enjoyed your flathead catch and your fun moment with the snapper. For the cloopers, try a dark olive #10 leech about 6″ down from a very small strike indicator. Cast and/or pull into their face. The carp will see the indicator, maybe sample it, dive a little and grab the leech. Raise the rod and fish on. Do you have a recipe and/or good picture of your headstand? Sounds like a winner!
    Nice site!

Nice, Thanks Troy. I’ll have to give the clooping technique a try… I’ll let you know if I have success!

Check this one out for a good write-up on the headstand:

Dude, I saw your blog posted on Moldy Chum. What a find!!

We need to catch up, and I need you to teach me some of your famed CARP techniques.

I’m back from OU and living in Edmond. We need to hit the ponds up soon.

    Email me.

    Sweet site btw.

    Ward,

I just discovered your site through a link on the Mountain River Journal newsletter. Excellent site!

I live in OKC and am an avid fly fisherman. I moved here from Nebraska about 5 years ago. I frequently fished for carp back there but haven’t done any of that since moving here. I am pleased to see there are decent local places to fish for the rough species.

I’m very interested in finding golf ponds to fish for quick, convenient outings near home. Could you help me with that? What places allow you to just walk on and fish their ponds?

Also, I’m very interested in finding places on the oklahoma river or in the city specifically where i can sight fish. I have had very little luck checking those places out.

Thanks for any info you can give me. I understand if you don’t want to post it publicly.

    Michael

  9. OkieAngler,
Loved your recent pix! Agree, a bit more time before the leaves completely turn. Would you mind if we used some of your pix on the promotion of Beavers Bend, McCurtain County?

    Thanks,
    Dian
